Problem

Initial solutions like MatchLink helped bridge a gap for caregivers and dementia researchers by offering game-based cognitive tracking and basic performance visualisation. However, as real-world use increased, limitations became evident. The system needed more granular skill insights and broader game variety to better understand daily changes in the person they care for. Researchers required deeper analytical capabilities, customisable data filters, and flexible frameworks to adapt games and metrics to evolving needs. There was also a need for a more unified ecosystem that could capture, compare, and contextualise cognitive data across multiple use cases, from individual care decisions to large-scale research.

Process

Building on the foundation of the original MatchLink app, the platform underwent a second, more extensive round of design iteration through co-design workshops.

This led to:

  • Faster access to actionable insights.

  • Enabling skill-specific timeline analysis to monitor cognitive abilities with greater granularity

  • Improving the caregiver experience with richer, more intuitive visualizations, easier interpretation of trends and skill.

The platform also enables adjustment of parameters to incorporate new games, custom scoring models, and access to demographic segmentation, engagement frequency, and cross-sectional comparisons. Expanding data dashboards for researchers to customize visualizations, export data and surface frequently used or high-impact insights.
